EMBROIDERED CRITICISM

Gabriele Romeo, critico d'arte, art historian, art critic, venice, venezia, Italia, arte contemporanea, curatore, art curator

“There are several reasons that led me to emulate, in my embroidery, the recent series of works taken from "Beardary" (2016) and performed by Gilbert and George.  The English duo portrays himself as two double crosses of Saint Andrew and, with their red patterns in the clothes they dress, they recall the dear and beloved Super Mario games born in the late eighties of the last century. And as in "The X Factor", they are ready to start dancing the tortuous step of post-pop art. In fact, I consider this work to be very synaesthetic, it induces the user to look beyond the genres of identity and accompanies him on the roller coaster of art that must give it charge, energy, commutative optimism”. author: Gabriele Romeo ©️ Title: Gilbert & George | Synesthesia Hand embroidery with cotton on canvas size: 50 x 40 cm Venice, May 31, 2020.

From Fondation Louis Vuitton’s Instagram Stories for occasion of the event dedicated to Bertrand Lavier. "The expression of the kiss that materializes beyond contact in Bertrand Lavier's work" La Bocca / Bosch "(2015). The design of the armchair, warm in the enunciative relationship of the emulating image of the lips on a pedestal refrigerator, freezes the media, interpreted by the French artist in a dampening discussion in that McLuhanian dichotomy in which the media used in the post-war art were classified: hot and cold: painting and color domination, superlativity of electronic technology? Well this work is a conjuncture that tries to put a balance, an ex voto to the emotional relationship in the feelings of contact with the static interpretation of hibernation. Filtering and delicate, the lips 👄 invite to a multiplicity of unexpected, unscheduled behaviors, unmistakably reminding us of the warm ones in the depictions of Warhol, or Martial Raysse." author: Gabriele Romeo ©️ Title: Gilbert & George | Synesthesia Hand embroidery with cotton on canvas size: 15 x 15 cm Venice, June 4, 2020.
